About me:

Yunji Chen was born in Nanchang, China, in 1983. Currently, he is an associate professor at Institute of Computing Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences. He joined the Godson (Loongson, 龙芯) project in 2002. He was a chief architect of Godson-3 microprocessor. Currently, he leads the architecture design of a Multi-Teraflops Godson processor for the next-generation Dawning Supercomputer. Yunji Chen has authored or coauthored 1 book and over 40 papers on various conferences (including ISCA, HPCA, ISSCC, Hot Chips, IJCAI, and SPAA) and jounals (including IEEE TC, IEEE TPDS, ACM TIST, and IEEE Micro).

  • Statistical performance comparisons of computers

    Performance comparison has been continuously hampered by the variability of computer performance. It is important to know the confidence of a comparison result. We proposed a statistically rigorous framework (as well as a referece software) to correctly provide confidence for performance comparison.

  • Video encoder without integer-pel search

    The integer-pel search of motion estimation, which searches a suitable integer-pel reference position, was considered to be crucial for video encoding. It even occupies over 50% of the overall encoding time when adopting the full search scheme. We observe an interesting phenomenon that video sequences of high resolution can be encoded effectively and efficiently even without integer-pel search.
